> **[Kodachi OS 10: Privacy OS with Tor and VPN](https://kodachi.cloud/)**
>
> Kodachi OS 10 is a privacy-focused Linux distribution that can route traffic through Tor or VPN with DNSCrypt, a kill switch, and a live security dashboard. Free for personal use.

I cannot tell you how hype I am that Kodachi is being maintained again. I used to love this fuckin’ OS because it’s so over-the-top and M4st3r H4xx0r while having some legitimate utility. Namely it can load to and boot from RAM. It stopped being maintained a while ago and I don’t know when it started again. They even used to run their own VPN service for the OS and a lot of people suspected a honeypot lol. I don’t think any evidence of that ever surfaced, but it was a valid concern. I guess I should clarify that I like this OS from a novelty perspective, and you should not use it for privacy reasons if you don’t understand its mechanisms. Even though I’m fairly knowledgeable, if my goal was maximum privacy, I’d stick with Tails as far as live boots.

I ran it in a VM on a fairly shitty laptop with 2 cores and 4gb RAM allocated for it, and it was chugging. Presumably all of the widgets and noise on the desktop (which I love btw). It also gave me a warning that the 20gb I allocated for the hard drive was almost empty right after installing it, so I guess it’s fucking huge and fairly demanding now unless I misconfigured something. I hate the AI-generated dragon image that is the default background, so I’m knocking points for that. I like their “recipes” idea, which is essentially different networking configurations for different use cases. Different networking configs don’t solve for compartmentalization issues, but I think it’s a cool idea. Maybe used in combination with encrypted containers you could get somewhere.

I do have one question. I don’t know much about ricing, but I do really like some of the widgets on the desktop. I like the one that tells you your IPs and location, network information, connection status, etc. I’d like to make my desktop busy af with digital rain and shit like that but idk wtf I’m doing. If we’ve got any ricers in the house wanna point me in the right direction, I’d be grateful.

One of my main concerns with an OS like Kodachi.
Every additional privacy/security component—VPN clients, Tor routing, DNSCrypt, custom routing logic, dashboards, sandboxing tools, firewall rules, and custom scripts—adds code, configuration, dependencies, and potential failure modes. That increases attack surface and also makes it harder to verify that traffic is actually behaving the way you expect.
